Optus monitors satellites for solar flare impact

SingTel Optus says its satellites are safe from being sizzled by one of the biggest solar flares to erupt from the sun in the past 10 years on Friday.

The giant sun spot AR1944 is a powerful burst of radiation that NASA says is seven times the width of earth. While humans are protected by the atmosphere, solar flares can impact satellites and communications signals.
