The proportion of Australians with solar panels more than doubled in the past three years, from 7.5 per cent in March 2011 to 16 per cent – more than 3 million people – by the end of 2013.
South Australia had the highest number of homes
with solar, 28 per cent, followed by 22 per cent in Queensland and 18 per cent in Western Australia. In NSW and Victoria, 11 per cent and 12 per cent respectively had solar power in their homes.
